This is a very easy going, simple and enjoyable rifle to shoot in a very cheap and fun cartridge. The Minox scope is really all I had and would have preferr.

Nov 27, 2013 · The No. 1 has been around since 1966, and has been made in a profusion of calibers and configurations. These days, Ruger is apparently following the Remington Model 700 Classic program of issuing just one caliber a year..

They have 25 caliber choices to chouse from, I won't go into all 25 calibers but your correct in saying that the 45-70 is number 1, they have over 1600 members in the group so they get a lot of responses. I'll list the top 5 calibers for those that are interested in such things: 1-45-70. 2-22-250. 3-7 MM Rem Mag. 4-30-06. 5-223 Rem.

Ruger currently list their No. 1 as being available from Lipsey's in .44 Remington Magnum and it is made in the Light Sporter style ideal for close in stalking in medium to thick cover. Description: A nice clean Ruger Number 1 in 22-250 Remington caliber with a heavy 24 inch barrel. Excellent bore. This gun comes with scope blocks and 1 inch rings. The 22-250 was THE bench rest caliber from the 50's through the 80's. A very accurate round for target or varment shooting.

There are several variations of the No. 1. The four original models are the No. 1-A Light Sporter (22 inch barrel, Alexander Henry forearm), the 1-S Medium Sporter (26 inch barrel, Alexander Henry forearm), the 1-B Standard Rifle (26 inch barrel, semi-beavertail forearm), and the 1-V Varminter (24 inch heavy barrel, semi-beavertail forearm).
